In a world where everywhere you turn signs, movies, even people talk about paying it forward, doing a good deed each day, etc.. however, sometimes along the way it seems that people fall through the cracks.  They look at you as if they don’t know what to do.   On the receiving end all you have to do is smile and say Thank You, and then when you get the chance you do the same for someone else.  This is basically how it goes.

Of course the good deed is the important part for the giver, but for the receiver please don’t forget to say Thank You.  That is your gratitude for the kindness being done to you.

I was parking in a hospital parking lot last week and I just happen to look out my side window and a woman is standing there.  I get out with a smile and greet her.  She says she has a day parking pass but she is finished for the day and asked if I would like to use the pass, no reason why it should go to waste.  I gladly said yes and thanked her for the pass.  She then got into her car and drove off.  Hospital parking can be so expensive and she just gave me free parking.  I was very happy.

I ended up only being in there for about 20 minutes and the pass still had the entire afternoon available. When I got back to the parking lot I looked around for someone I can pass this parking pass on to.  I noticed a couple having trouble making enough cash for the parking machines.  I asked the man if he wanted to use the parking pass.

Some people don’t even think twice about paying it forward; and then there are those who either, from their reaction have never heard of the concept before, or don’t participate.   So when I went to pass it on to them it is not a Thank You instead the man felt obliged to give something back (like a payment) even if all he could think of at that second was his personal approval to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

As I drove away I had a strange feeling he never experienced a random act of kindness before.
