THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Yesterday (Monday) we had a big Thunderstorm with strong winds very early in the morning before the sun was up.  The lightening lit up the sky and the dark bedrooms and houses.  My cat, Salsa,  is usually fine with these storms but this one even scared him.  This was the first thunderstorm of the season for us and the weather system was with us for the whole day with very strong winds.

With these types of storms there is always a period just before, like a warning that the storm is coming.  Just like when people who get migraines; there is usually a warning sign before, either an aura like flashing lights in the side of your eyes, or you might notice other symptoms like you get very fatigued several hours before, or get the munchies.  These are some of the warning signs I get with my migraines.

I always like to go outside during this time (the calm before the storm). There is a different feeling out there. It doesn’t last very long so I like to seize the moment so to speak. It’s almost like everything is frozen in time even the animals. Everything stops. The trees are suddenly still, even the animals seem to be quiet. Often you can look around and there might be a different hue to the air around you.  It is almost an odd rusty pink like the sun is trying to come through the dark clouds but what comes through instead is this faint tint or hue while everything is so still. Not even a leaf is moving, or a bird chirping.

To capture this is amazing, because in a few minutes all hell is about to break loose.  But for these few minutes, everything is still, as if they are frozen in time.

Then all of a sudden one raindrop,  then you see a bird fly by, then another big raindrop.  Now the wind starts to pick up. Then everything starts to move again, and we start to hear the beginnings of the thunder and see the flashes of the lightning.

But it’s that silent calm before the storm that nature provides,  giving warning to take shelter a storm is near.
