SALSA SAVED MY LIFE LAST NIGHT!

Last night I opened my back door and Salsa,  my cat,  and I were hit with the smell of gas.   My gas meter is in the back of my house beside my deck and the smell was coming from there.   Luckily, I knew what to do as I used to work for the gas company many years ago.  I spoke with a neighbour this morning and he said he would have ‘freaked out’ if it happened to him.

That got me thinking, how many people are prepared to handle situations calmly even though they might not know what to do?  How many people know what a gas leak smells like?  Most people would know not to smoke around it.  How many would know that turning off/on a light switch or even using the telephone could trigger an explosion?

I have found that a balanced mind, body and soul also gives you the calmness you need when situations arise such as this.  The ego is the one who loves to ‘freak out’ but you can overcome this.

Some people experience this ‘Ego eruption’ at the beginning of a crisis but then calm down and control it.

Others see the crisis then the eruption happens and the Ego takes over.

Then there are others who can go through a crisis all calm and in control, only after the crisis is over and the stress comes down does the Ego show up.

All these three scenarios I have seen in people I know.  I was usually in the third category.   As I try to stay balanced through daily meditation, gratitude, affirmations and being authentic, I find the calmness can control the Ego giving me a clear mind to deal with a crisis like the one I had last night.

To answer my question about the smell of gas;  they put a special agent in the natural gas to smell like rotten eggs.  This is done deliberately so if there is a gas leak people can detect it immediately.  By the way, it took them 2 hours to respond to the call.

If it wasn’t for Salsa wanting to go outside, I might not have found the leak because the smell was not in the house last night.  Thank you Salsa you saved us from a disaster!

I thank God my neighbours never went outside for a cigarette!!

Namaste!
