A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAYONAISE JAR!!

Memories have a special place in our hearts.  The good memories are kept alive and nourished by passing them on as stories to family and friends, children and grandchildren.  Many are captured in snapshots to savor forever, and passed down for generations.

I am sure we all have certain mundane tidbits in life that we remember and keep dear to our hearts. It’s in these little (non-verbal) moments that say ‘I love you’ that keep them close to our heart.  Here is just one of those moments for me with one of my sisters:

I remember when I was a little girl, oh back in grade 4 or 5, I am guessing, I was sitting at the kitchen table doing my homework. I sat there with a blank page before me, pencil in hand, and just staring out the kitchen door window. There was nothing to see because it was dark outside and the kitchen was very bright. My parents always had, at the very least, a 100 watt light bulb in the kitchen. They always had to have the kitchen very bright morning, noon, or night. When everyone was sleeping there was still a small light kept on in the kitchen. Everywhere else in the house the lights were dim and somewhat cozy, but the kitchen had to be bright. Anyways, my homework was in English. I had to write a short story about an item in the fridge. No less than a page. No more than two pages. Short and sweet! Right? Well, do you think I could come up with anything? NOT………….I sat there Forever……. Until one of my sisters came by and asked what was wrong, so I told her. I used to think she was a whiz with words, and I still do. She felt so bad for me that she looked at a few items and sat down and wrote something for me. In no time I had my short story. ‘A Day in The Life Of A Mayonnaise Jar’!! Was I excited or what! This was the coolest thing I had ever read! It was brilliant! I still remember thinking “WOW, is the teacher every going to like this”.

That was many moons ago, but I will never forget A Day in The Life Of A Mayonnaise Jar!! This is one of those memories that will stay with me forever. By the way, I also leave a small light on in my kitchen at night. I guess I know where it came from.

Namaste!
