Happy New Year!  I hope 2010 turns out exciting and fulfills all your wishes!
I took a couple of weeks off over the holidays.  I was nursing my best friend, best buddy, my baby,  my dog Winston.   He was almost 15 years old.  For a Pekinese that is very old.  I knew, and I do believe that he knew that time was not on his side anymore.  He past on December 27,2009.

How I know Winston knew is a bit of a story to tell.  Back in October over a period of  about 3 days, Winston was acting a bit strange.  He would be looking at different places in the house and barking, but it was more of a talking bark.  If anyone has dogs they understand that dogs have different barks for different things.  Then he would come to me as if he was quiet perturb and wanted me to do something.  Well, on the third day he got quite upset looking at his blanket on the chair where he usually sleeps, then looked at me and started barking at me then made like a humfgh! sound at me and went to slept somewhere else.   Over these few days I knew that angels and spirits had come to visit him.  I tried to calm him down but he was not very happy with there visit.  Usually when they are around I just tell him that they are friendly and he quiets down.  However, this time they were talking directly at him and it looked like they were sitting on his blanket so he was not impressed!

I had no idea at the time what they said to him.  After those few days everything went back to normal.  He was old,  he had arthritis in his joints,  and about a month before all this happened he did have an internal infection of some sort.  I was ready to put him to sleep then.  My kids talked me out of it at that time.

December comes and I decide to put up the tree.  Now he has been around for many years as I put up the tree.  Everything’s cool.  This time, not so cool.  He doesn’t want to be in the same room as the tree.  When I put the bells on the tree.  He freaks out and wants to get out of the house.  Takes about a week of this before he calms down.  Christmas eve comes and he is not feeling well.  Christmas day he has a high fever.  Boxing day he cannot stay still trying to pee and walk, pee and walk, but nothing is coming out.  The only time he could sleep is if  I wrap him in a big towel and cuddle him.  He was in too much pain by then.  On the morning of the 27th I take him to the emergency animal hospital where they gave him something for the pain.

By then he knew what was going on, he had such a look of peace on his face.  He looked like he did when he was a puppy, with big eyes looking at me he tries to say something to me.  He stayed cuddled in my arms until he passed.

So the question how do I know he knew?  I do believe the Angels and Spirits came in October to tell him that when the tree went up they will be back for him.   I guess they were wearing bells.
